“YOUNG WOMEN LEADING FOR A GREENER FUTURE”
A WLDP event organised by the Europe Region in cooperation with Sangam

The WLDP is composed of different phases, the project will have at its core a training event due to take place in Sangam World Center (Pune, India) from the 14 and the 20 March 2012.
For more information about the venue you could visit the website: www.sangamworldcentre.org.

Summary of the project
Basing on the principle “together we can save our planet”, the project will address the active role of women in society, youth involvement and contribution to the achievement of the MDGs 7: “Ensure environmental sustainability”. The aim of the project is to empower youth leaders and workers, and in particular young women, to educate, speak out, act and motivate others to take action for a greener planet. The main objectives are to foster the leadership skills of youth leaders, to educate them in areas related to global environment and to initiate local, regional and national projects on Global Environmental Challenges and MDG 7 in participating countries, and through networking and promotion, amongst all WAGGGS member organisations.
Young Women Leading for a Greener Future project will be delivered through a series of activities that will involve young people in the preparation and implementation of all phases. After a first “Pre training event” activity using WAGGGS resources on Climate Change, MDG 7 and other Environmental Challenges, the project will continue through the preparation and design of training modules and event in which the young people will conduct peer education actions that focus on leadership and advocacy on environmental matters. The participants will then be further trained on the same areas during a High profile training event on “Leadership for a greener planet”; during the training existing leaders will be able to learn how to lead others in complex situations, promote environmental sustainability by becoming role models and motivating others to get involved, develop advocacy and community projects dedicated to MDG 7. On their return home, the participants will work on environmental awareness projects at national level while the project promoters will work on a training module focused on environmental sustainability and the achievement of MDG 7.
The main venue of the project will be in Sangam, Pune (India) where 46 participants from 42 countries will meet and work together to develop their international leadership and advocacy skills, gain a deeper understanding of MDGs 7 and develop follow-up advocacy and community projects.
We shall achieve our objectives through the production of the following results:
- training 46 leaders on Global Environmental Challenges and MDG 7
- motivating leaders to get involved in their association and/or communities and multiply the results of the project by networking and exchanging practices and challenges
- supporting leaders in designing and developing environmental advocacy actions after the training event and in the future
- supporting leaders to influence decision making in their associations, communities and countries in a way to get partner associations and decision makers at different levels involved in environmental campaigns and programmes
Trained leaders and a network dedicated to environmental projects and work will foster the participation of young people in their organisations as well as communities and enable them to become agents of change in relation to matters that are crucially connected with their future and development. Networking and exchanging information, receiving high profile training in an international setting and using the momentum to deliver projects within their communities have proved to be powerful educational tools that can ensure long lasting results in the participating associations and, as secondary result, in the communities where they are active. The leaders will then ensure a multiplying effect in their countries.
The main activities for participants will be:
Pre training event activities – using WAGGGS resources on Climate Change, MDG 7 and other Environmental Challenges: all young leaders participating in the project will be asked to use WAGGGS resources on Climate Change, MDG 7 and other Environmental Challenges in their own countries.
High profile training event on “Leadership for a greener planet”: the training event will be a very high level international training course based on non formal education principles where existing leaders will be able to learn how to lead others in complex situations, handle change, promote environmental sustainability by becoming role models, develop advocacy projects that can affect the life of girls and young women and become multipliers inside their association and communities.

Advocacy actions on Global Environmental Challenges and MDG 7: During this phase participants will develop a peer to peer structure where their ideas and proposals for the future will be shared and developed. Partner associations commit to support young leaders in this phase.
Production of the project final report: after all activities are completed and before the end of the project cycle the project coordinator shall work on the compilation and production of the final project report. She shall involve participants, trainers, partner associations and WAGGGS personnel in this work as deemed necessary.
