Girls World forum 2012

GIRLS WORLD FORUM 2012

Girl Scouts of the USA and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) invite you to register two girls and a chaperone for the 2012 Girls’ World Forum (GWF) to be held in Chicago, IL, USA, from 12-16 July 2012.

The Girls’ World Forum is the third and final event in a series of forums that are part of WAGGGS’ global centenary celebrations.

The World Forums, hosted by Girlguiding UK in 2010 and the World Centres in 2011 have already engaged over 250 young women in discussions on WAGGGS’ Global Action Theme, girls worldwide say “Together We Can Change Our World,” which addresses the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).  

For the GWF 2012 we ask that you register girls who are:

• aged 14 to 18
• actively engaged in your Member Organization
• interested in the UN MDGs
• willing to develop skills and networks to bring about change in their community and country
• fluent in Arabic, English, French or Spanish (to contribute and benefit fully from the Forum).

GWF 2012 will focus on three millennium goals:

• MDG 1: to end poverty and hunger,
• MDG 3: to promote gender equality and empower women, and
• MDG 7: to achieve environmental sustainability.

The Forum will include the following elements:

• Exchange with external partners
• Develop advocacy skills
• Identify viable solutions to MDG issues and incorporate them into designs of personal action plans
• Participate in local take action projects
• Review and incorporate Member Organizations 2010 and 2011 Forum action plans
• Centenary celebrations
